Metal spinning is a forming process in which a metal sheet is fixed on the mold of a spinning machine while the metal sheet rotates with the spindle of the machine, the spinning wheel applies pressure to the rotating blank to cause local plastic deformation.

In this process, due to the rotational motion of the spindle of the spinning machine and the longitudinal and transverse feed motion of the tool, this local plastic deformation gradually extends to the entire blank, thereby obtaining hollow rotating body parts of various shapes. Metal spinning is a special forming method that can complete processes such as drawing, flanging, shrinking, bulging and curling of rotating bodies of various shapes. Ideal spin forming materials include aluminum, copper, brass, bronze, silver and mild steel. The workpiece must be annealed before spinning. Metal spinning is usually performed under computer numerical control, which is also called CNC spin forming.

However, when iron, stainless steel, titanium alloy and other high-hardness materials are spinned, the high temperature generated during the processing will cause the cutter wheel material to anneal, causing the knife to become damaged. The wheel surface hardness decreases and the surface of the cutter wheel with low hardness is easily scratched by stainless steel materials. There will be many scratches on the surface of the final formed product, or the gap between the cutter wheel and the material will be affected by excessive wear, resulting in unstable product quality, scrapped cutter wheel, and poor production.

When facing the spinning of such difficult materials, we recommend the use of carbide spinning rolls to improve the hardness, heat resistance and wear resistance of the spin wheel base. The finished products processed by using carbide spinning wheels will have a uniform density. The finish is good and the product size is consistent.
